Good For Age Entry

Good For Age entrants in the 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon

This year, all Good For Age participants aged over 40 are automatically entered into the inaugural Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Championships, which is happening as part of the 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon.

The Championships will feature the world’s best runners over the age of 40 who have qualified through performances in 175 events across six continents as part of the Age Group World Rankings.

A specially designed medal will be given to all finishers in the Championships, in addition to their Virgin Money London Marathon finisher’s medals, and the winner in each age group will be crowned World Champion.

How do I claim my Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Championships medal?

When you visit the Virgin Money London Marathon Running Show at ExCeL London to collect your bib (running) number, you will be issued with an additional bib to wear on your back, which will be printed with your last name and age category. You must wear this bib to be part of the Age Group World Championships race and listed in the official results – that’s all you need to do to be part of this exciting new addition to the 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon.

You will then be allocated a start wave with all other Good For Age and Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Championships invited runners within your gender and age category.

What if I want to opt out?

Simply tell us that want to opt out of the Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Championships when you register at the Virgin Money London Marathon Running Show. The back bib will not be issued, and you will not appear in the Age Group World Championships results, but you will still feature in the overall and age category results for the Virgin Money London Marathon.

Good For Age applications for the 2022 Virgin Money London Marathon

The qualifying period for the 2022 London Marathon began on 5 October 2020 and will end on 3 October 2021.

Good For Age (GFA) entry is open to UK residents only. In order to apply for a GFA place in the 2022 London Marathon you need to achieve the qualifying time displayed below during the qualifying period (5 October 2020 to 3 October 2021).

Qualifying times must be run at an in-person event that has a certified marathon course or the virtual 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon. In-person race courses must be certified by UKA, the Association for International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), or a national governing body for distance running for the country in which the race is held. Further information on qualifying through the virtual 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon is available below.

Meeting the qualifying time for your age category does not guarantee entry into the event, but simply the opportunity to submit an application. The maximum number of GFA places is 6,000 (3,000 men and 3,000 women). Places will be allocated on a ‘fastest first’ basis.

Irrespective of whether you have a GFA qualifying time, we advise you to enter the ballot for the 2022 London Marathon, as a GFA qualifying time does not guarantee you a place. You will be notified the outcome of your GFA application before the ballot has been drawn. If you are successful in obtaining a GFA entry, your ballot application will be withdrawn. The ballot for the 2022 London Marathon will open on Sunday 3 October 2021.
