Deferring your Virgin Money London Marathon entry

Life doesn’t always go according to plan. If circumstances mean you’re not able to take part in the mass 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday 3 October, you need to withdraw your entry via this form (please note if you have a charity place you must contact your charity in addition to filling in the form). The withdrawal system will close at 20:00 on Saturday 2 October, so please ensure you fill in the form by this deadline should you need to.  

You may then be eligible to defer your entry to next year’s event, depending on the type of entry that you have. Please read below about the different entry types and which ones can be deferred: we have split these into information for UK Entrants and International Entrants to help you find the advice you need.

Please note that entries in the virtual 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon cannot be deferred and are not refundable.

UK Entrants

 

Deferred entry from the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon

If you originally had a place in the 2019 event, deferred it to 2020 and then opted to roll it over to 2021, you will not be able to defer your place again if you are unable to take part on Sunday 3 October.

Rolled over ballot, club or stakeholder entry from the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon

If you originally had a place in the 2020 event and opted to roll this over to 2021, you will be able to defer your place to 2022. You will need to pay the 2022 entry fee of £49 in due course to secure your place. Please withdraw from the event by 20:00 on Saturday 2 October. We will then email you in due course with the opportunity to pay for and secure a guaranteed entry for the 2022 TCS London Marathon on Sunday 2 October 2022.

Places through the ballot, running clubs and stakeholders in 2021

If you got your place through the ballot for the 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon, or you have a guaranteed place from a running club or a stakeholder (such as a local authority, emergency services, volunteer group or another group), you can defer your place to 2022. You will need to pay the 2022 entry fee of £49 to secure your place. Please withdraw from the event by 20:00 on Saturday 2 October. We will then email you in due course with the opportunity to pay for and secure a guaranteed entry for 2022.

Places provided by a charity in 2020 or 2021

If your place was provided by a charity, it’s not possible for you to defer it if you’re unable to take part on Sunday 3 October 2021 as the place belongs to the charity. Please withdraw from the event by 20:00 on Saturday 2 October. and contact the charity direct to discuss your options. Please note it is down to the charity’s discretion if it allows you to defer your place to a future year. 

Places provided by a sponsor in 2020 or 2021

If your place was provided and due to be paid for by a sponsor, it’s not possible for you to defer it if you’re unable to take part on Sunday 3 October 2021. Please withdraw from the event by 20:00 on Saturday 2 October and contact the sponsor direct to discuss your options.

Back of the Pack places from 2020

If you had a free-of-charge Back of the Pack place for 2020 and subsequently opted to roll over your place to 2021, you will not be able to defer that place to 2022.

Good For Age places

Good For Age places are awarded based on qualifying times achieved within the designated qualifying period. These places cannot be deferred.

Pregnancy

If you are unable to run on Sunday 3 October 2021 because you are pregnant or postpartum and you are not eligible to defer your place as outlined in any of the entry types above, please contact us to discuss your options.

International Entrants

 

Places provided by International Tour Operators in 2021*

The situation with international travel is continually changing, with restrictions across the globe generally easing week by week. We therefore extended the entry deadline for international runners to Monday 30 August.

At the time of writing (17 August), you do not need to quarantine on arrival in England if:

You are travelling from the following countries: USA or EU countries, Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland and the Vatican City.

AND

You have not been in a Red list country for the last 10 days

AND

You are double vaccinated (for at least 14 days), in the USA with a vaccine authorised by FDA, or in EU countries, Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino or Vatican City with a vaccine authorised by EMA, or in Switzerland with a vaccine authorised by SwissMedic, or in the UK (or under the UK vaccine programme overseas) with a vaccine authorised by the MHRA.

THEN you can travel to England without quarantine.

You can also travel to England without having to quarantine if you are:

  1. double vaccinated in the above regions/countries with the authorised vaccine
  2. and you are coming from any Amber or Green list country
  3. and you have not been in a Red list country for the last 10 days

You will still need to follow rules on Covid testing before and after arrival and produce authorised evidence of having been double vaccinated.

If it is not possible for you to travel to England without quarantine on arrival OR without quarantine on return to your country of origin, and you do not wish to go through that process, then we can arrange for the return of your entry fee to your International Tour Operator.

Your Tour Operator may be able to arrange for you to transfer your entry to another London Marathon, but there is no guarantee of this and you must discuss your options with your Tour Operator.

Places from the 2021 international ballot

If you are an international runner and got your place through the international ballot for the 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon, you can defer your place to 2022. Please withdraw from the event by 20:00 on Saturday 2 October. We will then email you in due course with the opportunity to pay for and secure a guaranteed entry for 2022.

Please note: if your country of origin, or the UK, will not permit you to travel to and from England at any stage from 30 August 2021 to 3 October 2021 without quarantine, you will not need to pay the 2022 entry fee.

However, if your country of origin and the UK allows non-quarantined travel from 30 August 2021 to 3 October 2021, you will be required to pay the 2022 international entry fee of £99 (you will not be charged the £26 carbon offset fee again as you have not travelled) for the 2022 event in due course.

Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Championships

If your country of origin will not permit you to travel to England at any stage from 30 August 2021 to Sunday 3 October 2021 or if the UK government will not permit entry from your country of origin in the same time period, you may either request a full refund of your entry fee or transfer your entry to the 2023 Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Championships. This event is scheduled to take place in North America in the first three months of 2023.

We will contact you by the end of October 2021 to offer you the choice of these two options, but you must withdraw from the 2021 event by by completing this form before 20:00 on Saturday 2 October to be eligible. Please note: it is not possible to defer your place to the 2022 event.
