Five gifts for your running Valentine

Valentine’s Day can be a minefield of indecision for many of us as we dither over what to get our loved ones. Too much, and we risk scaring off the intended recipient. Too little (or nothing), and it could be weeks before the cold shoulder treatment comes to an end.

Happily, if the significant other in your life loves running as much as you, it can be far easier to ensure you hit the mark with your gift. We’ve come up with five ideas that will make this year’s 14 February go smoothly.

A GPS map of a run shaped like a love heart

Nothing says dedication – both to your running and to your beloved – like going out there and painstakingly running a route that will produce the shape of a love heart once you’ve uploaded it from your GPS. How hard can it be? We’ve seen runners draw far more complicated – and rude – shapes. If you’re feeling really romantic you could try and construct their name inside it. Good luck.

Chocolate

Running and chocolate have long been comfortable bedfellows, and if you’re both training for the marathon you can eat guilt-free (to a certain extent) after a tough interval session or long run. Why not go the whole hog and rustle up one of these Valentine’s desserts designed with runners in mind?

Kit

Any day is a good day to be presented with some new kit, but the runner in your life will perhaps appreciate a new item from the 2017 London Marathon range more than that teddy bear and flowers you’ve been buying for the last few years. Or maybe get them both. Just in case.

A trail running weekend away

There are lots of reasons to leave the pavement behind and incorporate some off-road running into your training. And the chance to explore somewhere new with your better half is the perfect excuse to pack your trail shoes and head for a weekend away in the countryside. These guidelines will help you make the most of your off-road adventure for two!

A sports massage

We are big fans of using sports massage as a great recovery tool when training has been tough and your body is feeling the strain. Why not give the gift of a pair of healing hands this Valentine’s Day in the form of a voucher for a sports massage at a clinic near you.
