Thirty-eight official Guinness World Records titles were broken at this year’s Virgin Money London Marathon, from 78 listed attempts.

Guinness World Records has collaborated with the Virgin Money London Marathon for the 12th consecutive year to provide the most creative and inspirational fun runners with on-the-Finish-Line world record verification.

The 39th edition of the race saw some incredible records fall, including the fastest marathon dressed as a love heart, run by Thomas Brockwell in 3:05:32.

“[I'm] Absolutely exhausted but [it was] amazing," Thomas said. "Unlike anything I’ve ever done before. It was very tight, amazing. The last 800m were hell when I saw just how close it was. The legs are now fully dead.”

Married couple Rebecca Cesar de Sa & Nuno Cesar de Sa set the record for fastest marathon with two runners handcuffed together (mixed) in an impressive time of 3:43:17.

Rebecca said: "We were alright until 20 miles and then my husband got a bit tired, so it was quite difficult at the end to be in sync and for me to motivate him. The chains were pulling."

Nuno said: "My legs were gone; my back had a spasm!”

On the Finish Line to verify all new world records set was official Guinness World Records Adjudicator Mark McKinley, who said: “The Virgin Money London Marathon is one of the most exciting events I’ve had the pleasure of adjudicating. Where else can you see a bride, chasing Big Ben, chasing a Christmas Tree? Congratulations to the 38 who achieved Guinness World Records titles today and have earned themselves a place in the next edition of the book, you are all Officially Amazing!”
