With the current higher temperatures forecast for Sunday 25th April (maximum 19⁰ C but with a 20% chance of 21⁰ C), the Virgin London Marathon can confirm that ‘contingency water' will be added to the standard water available to all runners on the marathon route.
(The previous highest temperature recorded at the London Marathon was in 2007, where the figure reached 21.7⁰ C at 12 noon).
750,000 bottles of Nestle Pure Life water will be distributed at the start, on the course and at every mile site starting at mile 3, with the last drink available at 25 miles, (and at the finish), in addition to the contingency water.
Contingency water will consist of an additional 2,500 bottles distributed on every even mile numbered water station at miles 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 and 24.
In addition to water, Lucozade Sport is available at the start and at 5, 10, 15, 19 and 25 miles and Lucozade Gels will be available at 14 and 21 miles.
In addition to the contingency water it should be noted there are six ‘run through showers' on the course - they are located at 9 miles, 13 miles, 17 miles, 20 miles, 22 miles and 24 miles.
