The 2016 Elite Wheelchair Virgin Money London Marathon

Entries for the 2016 Elite Wheelchair Virgin Money London Marathon opened in November 2015.

The 2016 Elite Wheelchair Virgin Money London Marathon was run under IPC (International Paralympic Committee) rules and IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) rules.

The criteria for entry into the Elite Wheelchair Virgin Money London Marathon race in 2016 was as follows:

  • You must have been over 18 on Race Day.
  • You must have had an IPC classification.
  • You must have been able to finish a marathon in under three hours.
  • You must have had a valid marathon time from the past two years of three hours or under (you needed to produce documentation to this effect).

Race conditions:

Anyone who did not reach mile 11 in one hour and 15 minutes was pulled from the race at mile 13.

You must have used an approved racing wheelchair under IPC rules.

No handcycles were permitted.

Day Chair Virgin Money London Marathon

Details on how to apply for the 2017 Day Chair Virgin Money London Marathon will appear here in due course.

The criteria for the 2016 Day Chair Virgin Money London Marathon is outlined below.

Due to health and safety restrictions, entries were limited to 12 standard day chairs – eight of which were allocated through a ballot.

Applicants were informed whether or not they had been successful in the ballot by Friday 4 December 2015.

If you were successful in the first ballot, you were sent a link to enter the 2016 Day Chair Virgin Money London Marathon.

If you were unsuccessful in the first ballot, you were able to apply for one of the remaining four places through any charity that held Golden Bond places in the 2016 Virgin Money London Marathon.

The criteria for entry into the 2016 Day Chair Virgin Money London Marathon was as follows:

  • You must have been able to self propel yourself on the course.
  • You must have been able to finish a marathon in six and a half hours.
  • You must have had a verified standard day chair marathon time of six hours 30 minutes or a mass-participation half marathon time of three hours or under within the previous 12 months.

Please note that the above time limits were in place as you needed to be able to propel yourself through crowds of runners on streets that are narrow. After six and a half hours roads start to reopen and we cannot guarantee a safe uninterrupted passage.

Race conditions:

  • No electric wheelchairs were allowed on the course.
  • All entries were subject to the standard entry conditions that apply to the 2016 Virgin Money London Marathon.
  • No outside help was allowed
