Championship Entry

The 2018 race

Championship entry into the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon is now closed. Runners were given until 17:00 on Monday 8 January 2018 to submit an application. We checked all applications and if successful, you were sent an email containing a link, which allowed you to complete and pay for your entry.

If you did not receive an email by 17:00 on Wednesday 17 January 2018 you were asked to call our helpdesk on 020 7902 0200.

The closing date for completing and paying for your entry (if successful) was 17:00 on Monday 22 January 2018.

Do I qualify?

If you're a member of an athletics club associated with British Athletics and you achieve(d) a championship-qualifying performance for a marathon (or half marathon) in 2016 or 2017, you are able to apply for a championship entry place in the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon.

You will need to have completed a marathon (or half marathon) in the same time, or faster than, the times listed below – these are the official championship qualifying performance times. Your qualifying time must be achieved after 1 January 2016:

Half marathon sub 1:15 Half marathon sub 1:30

Additionally, you must be registered with your National Governing Body (i.e. England Athletics, Scotland Athletics, Welsh Athletics, Athletics Northern Ireland) otherwise your application will be rejected. If you are unsure whether or not you are registered, please check with your NGB.

The deadline to upgrade an entry to a Championship start has now passed. The deadline to apply was 17:00 on Tuesday 20 February 2018.

Brighton Half Marathon results

Following the announcement that the course used for the Brighton Half Marathon in 2016 was 146m short of the 13.1-mile distance, London Marathon Events Ltd has reviewed its Championship qualification process.

London Marathon Events Ltd will continue to accept times recorded in the Brighton Half Marathon in 2016 for Championship time qualification for the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon, with the following conditions:

  • For female runners, thirty-eight (38) seconds will be added to the official finish time
  • For male runners, thirty-one (31) seconds will be added to the official finish time
