British Athletics Club Entry
Athletics clubs associated with British Athletics were able to apply for club entries into the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon. The number of entries given to each club is based on the number of first claim members over the age of 18 who are registered with British Athletics.
A world record of 386,050 people applied in the ballot for the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon, making it the most popular marathon on the planet and the number of runners qualifying for a “Good For Age” guaranteed place in 2018 increased by more than 800 on the 2017 figure. We have therefore reviewed all aspects of the entry system for the 2018 event.
We are introducing a new ratio of places per member for British Athletics affiliated running clubs. There will be more club runners taking part in the 2018 event than last year as the majority of Good For Age runners belong to clubs.
Clubs with fewer than 10 first claim members registered with British Athletics will be placed in a ballot. After the application deadline, 20 clubs will be drawn at random and allocated one place each.
We appreciate that this new allocation may disappoint some clubs but we want to maintain the balance of places available via the entry system. We will continue to review the entry system on an annual basis.
Please note that we will only accept the number of first claim members registered with British Athletics at the club as at 17 November 2017.
We guarantee that the allocation to athletics clubs affiliated to British Athletics for the 2019 event will be the same as for 2018.
The allocation of places to clubs will be as follows:
|Number of registered first claim members||Number of entries|
